Hillsborough County Deputy Lorrie Shephard leads workshop on the impact of bullying and bullying prevention.

The Ivy Enrichment Foundation of Tampa Bay, Inc. continues to make a positive impact on the community with its recent "Back to School Bus" workshop focused on bullying prevention. Held at Greco Middle School, the event provided a unique opportunity for young girls to engage in an informative and empowering lunchtime discussion about an issue that affects students nationwide.

Led by Hillsborough County Deputy Lorrie Shephard, the workshop covered several critical aspects of bullying, including:

  • Recognizing the Signs of Bullying: Students learned how to identify different types of bullying—physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying—and how to recognize when someone may be experiencing or engaging in bullying behavior.

  • Understanding the Effects: Deputy Shephard explained the emotional and psychological toll that bullying can take on both the victim and the perpetrator, emphasizing the long-term impact it can have on mental health and school performance.

  • How to Handle Bullying: Practical strategies for dealing with bullying were discussed, equipping the students with the tools they need to respond effectively if they witness or experience bullying.

  • Consequences of Bullying: The students also learned about the serious consequences of bullying, not just for the victims but for the bullies as well, including school disciplinary actions and legal repercussions.

The lunch-and-learn session was a part of the Ivy Enrichment Foundation’s ongoing efforts to create safer and more supportive school environments. The all-girls group actively participated in the conversation, sharing their thoughts and asking questions, which helped make the workshop both interactive and impactful.

“Empowering these young girls to stand up against bullying is a key step toward fostering a more inclusive, respectful school culture,” said Program Chairman, Brenda Jackson-Lee. “Our goal is to give them the knowledge and confidence to take a stand, whether for themselves or for a peer.”

The Ivy Enrichment Foundation is proud to support initiatives like these that promote positive change in our community. Through programs like the Back to School Bus, we are dedicated to enhancing the educational experience and overall well-being of students across Tampa Bay.
